Our Services
How we work together
We work as a team. You may choose to work with one or both of us. In most situations, one of us will be your primary doula and the other will be providing back up. We have, in some cases, attended the birth together. We try and attend the initial consultation together, so you can meet both of us.
Initial Consultation
You may contact us by phone or email. We will set up a time and place to meet, free of charge. We will speak specifically about your birth and provide information on the services we provide. This will give you an opportunity to get to know us and have your questions answered. Our services are not guaranteed unless you decide on and notify us. We will then reserve your estimated due date.
Home Visit
The next step is to set up a home visit. It is best to do this at your home because it allows us to become familiar with the route for future trips. This meeting will include discussion of the goals you have for your birth and determine the role you would like us to play. We will design individualized comfort techniques and labor support ideas you wish to utilize in labor. A labor rehearsal is often helpful to examine the different types of support with which you are comfortable.
Ongoing Pregnancy Support
We are available for questions at any time. You may contact us by email or phone. We have an extensive list of resources available to you. These include videos, books, and referrals to other professionals, for example post partum doulas and lactation consultants. We ask that you check in with us after each doctor's appointment to keep us informed on your progress. We would be happy to attend a doctor's visit with you, upon your request.
Labor Support
During labor and delivery, we provide uninterrupted emotional, physical and informational support and comfort for you, beginning at your home and staying through delivery to help with the initial breastfeeding relationship. We can use labor projects, emotional reassurance, relaxation, massage, vocalizations, body positions, hot or cold packs, baths or showers, counter pressure, hip squeeze, relaxed breathing and attention focusing techniques to help you. We will always support and reassure your partner, supplying them with suggestions to keep you, the mother, best supported. We do NOT replace your partner in any way. If anything, the partner is brought even more into the birthing process by the presence and support we can offer. We will work to create a safe and sacred space for your newborn to enter into the world. We can take pictures, if you desire, of your labor, birth and delivery, as well as the meeting of your baby.
Postpartum
We will stay with you through initial postpartum procedures and assist you with breastfeeding education and support, then we will slip out of the room and give you your personal family time. We are available for unlimited phone and email support after birth. Over the next few days, we will keep in touch and meet with you again to review your birth, answer questions & assist with breastfeeding, of course, and to see your new baby!!
